Athletics Events
At the end of September, we hold our own inter-house cross country race, the top runners from which are then invited to compete in the Epsom and Ewell District event in October.
Every November all year groups take part in a Sports Hall (indoor) Athletics tournament, which is always great fun and gives the opportunity for winning schools to progress to the county-level event.
All children take part in a "Weekly Mile" regime.
We take part in Epsom and Ewell athletic events such as during the Summer term the District Sports Field Events and Track Events at Xcel Sports Hub.

Year 5 and 6 District Cross Country Competition - Wednesday 11th October 2023
The first 4 boys and 4 girls in the upper school (Year 5 or 6) have been selected to attend the District Cross Country Tournament at Sutton Grammar Sports Ground on the 11th October from 3.30pm to 4.45pm. Parents will need to collect their participating children up early and arrange their own transport to and from the event. An email with Google form link has been sent out to all those chosen to take part.
Epsom & Ewell Cross Country Success: The selected children did extremely well for Wallace Fields Junior School in the District County Cross Country. Kasper Q came second in the boys run and Edie K coming first in the girls - this is at district level (not the school cross country). Great pride and congratulations to them and to the whole team that represented our school.
District Cross Country tournament took place at Sutton Grammar School this week on Wednesday 11th October 2023. Amazing effort from all our runners who took part. Wallace Fields Junior School talent shone with an incredible performance from Edie who took on 60 top runners from the borough to take first place! Kasper also made WFJS very proud by giving it everything to collect second in the boys race. To top it off, Wallace Field Juniors girls' team came second overall. Huge congratulations to all our athletes who took part! Thank you to everyone who came along to support.
Inter-House Cross Country Competition Friday 29th September 2023
Congratulations to all those who took part in the Inter-House Cross Country and thank you to all the parents/carers who came along to give their support and encouragement.
The results were as follows:-
• Lower School Girls - 1st - Peggy K, 2nd Alma C, 3rd Alice M, and 4th Annabel H
• Lower School Boys - 1st Lucas E, 2nd Louis L, 3rd Lockie, 4th Louis H
• Upper School Girls - 1st Edie K, 2nd Heidi L, 3rd Naomi Wr, and 4th Ivy MR
• Upper School Boys - 1st Kasper & Ben (with an exciting photo finish joint first), 2nd James K and 3rd Edgar C

Epsom and Ewell Track Events at Xcel Sports Hub - Thursday 13th July 2023
Class teachers selected 2 girls and 2 boys in each year group to compete in the sprints and middle distance as well as select one girl relay team (4 runners) and one boy relay team (4 runners) from each year group.
The Epsom And Ewell Track events took place on Thursday at the Xcel Hub in Walton on Thames. Our Year 6's were greatly missed due to the France trip this week, this meant that WFJS were never going to score highly overall with one year group missing. Aside from this, our Athletes were AMAZING! Great to see WFJS children putting every bit of effort into the events. We managed to collect medals in the 800m, 600m, sprint and relay.
Thank you to all the children for your enthusiasm and efforts. Thank you to the parents for supporting the children, as well shuttling them to and from the event. Also, a huge thank you to Mrs Louise Wilson for your invaluable support, and also thank you to Miss Grover and Mrs Langner, who supervised and cheered the children on the day.
Epsom and Ewell District Sports Field Events - Thursday 6th July 2023
Epsom and Ewell District Field Sports Event was held Stamford Green on Thursday 6th July 2023 from 4pm to 5.30pm. The events taking place were standing long jump, standing triple jump and tennis ball throw (demo videos are shown below). Class teachers selected a girl and a boy in each year group (years 3 to 6) will be who will be required to compete in these events. One person couldn't do more than 1 event.
Participants from Epsom and Ewell Borough showed some amazing talent in long jump, triple jump and throwing. Coaches and staff were blown away by the distances reached. WFJS walked away with a nice collection of medals across all disciplines. Well done to everyone who took part and to those who came to support.
